Re: No more American Eagle
by Anonymous
We had the same kind of problem with American Eagle. We had family coming to Halifax Christmas eve due around 7pm. They got to Halifax airspace and circled for 40min and turned away because of fog. After landing in Bangore, Maine and trying again a second time around 11pm they circled for another hour waiting for fog to break. They aborted. My family spent Christmas eve in Bangor on their own expense. Weather is not a delay AA covers. So Christmas morning the thrid attempt happened after having a scheduled arrival of 8am, they landed at 11am. The same amount of visibility as the previous two attempts. What really got the people waiting for family and the passengers mad was the fact that ONLY American Eagle refused to land when visibility is less than 500m. Every other flight was operating normally. They have nobody that can tell you what happens now. Just a 1-800 number in atlanta where you can talk to a computer. The one person from AA we did find, said "we have higher safety standards" - which is complete BS. American Eagle has less safety, since they don't have the navigational equipment installed on their planes to land in reduced visibility. My reccomendation - never fly American Eagle to or from a city where there is even a slight chance of fog. You can get delayed, cancelled and they will not compensate you.
