View Article  Too much stuff
One of the results of being legal is that I have my things now.

Most of my belongings, plus the majority of the wedding gifts, were stored in lovely Slummerville (I actually love Somerville, but the warehouse is in the part that isn't that nice), Massachusetts - they'd been sitting there since September 14, ten days before the wedding.  Two storage vaults.  That's a good amount of stuff.  I'll tell you the tale of dragging it up here at some point, but the end of the story is, it all went into our living room.

That's not exactly true, a few pieces of furniture went into their actual designated spots - my bedroom furniture (minus the bed; some nice woman's mother is now sleeping on that) and my green sofabed which clashes with our slightly teal-ish carpet.  But everything else landed in the living room, and we're slowly digging out.

The other day, I unpacked a vast quantity of my grandmother's china and crystal, which she promised to me well before she died.  The majority of it hadn't been touched since it was shipped cross-country in late 2000 (perhaps early 2001).  Only a few things were broken by some miracle.  She really wanted me to have it, it would seem.  Hee.  (Hey, is that the first hee of this blog?)

What remains is mainly books and papers, neither of which I really have a place to store at the moment, and kitchen appliances, which we plan to either swap in for older ones, or somehow jam into our tiny kitchen.  We have used the toaster (golden brown lovely bagels, oh baby), the mixer (it does change the consistency a little bit but I will easily get used to it), the rice cooker (non-stick!  it's not cheating!), and a few other things.

I do feel better with my things around me - my Pets.com sock puppet, my cookbooks, my black half-zip fleece pullover.

But it's not as important as I would have guessed.  Timing is everything.  We learn things as we go.

My permanent resident card arrived yesterday!

Not only can I live here, but I can also leave.  Whee!
